About AMI

AMI was founded in 2025 to increase access to wilderness medicine education in Alaska. The Last Frontier is known for sweeping landscapes, vast wilderness and endless opportunities for adventure. Here in the far north, the front country rapidly transitions to remote access. Many Alaskans recreate and live in remote and austere conditions with extreme weather, rugged terrain and limited access to outside resources. The goal of AMI is to empower Alaskans and visitors to the 49th state to manage injuries and illness in wilderness settings.

Meet Megan

Megan was born and raised in the desert Southwest. She spent her formative adult years rock climbing, mountain biking and exploring the arid landscape and mountains of Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado and Utah. In her professional life Megan became a Registered Nurse in 2015. She has worked in the Intensive Care Unit, Emergency Department and Air Evacuation as a Flight Nurse. In 2021 Megan moved up to Alaska with her husband to start a new adventure in the Arctic. She now works as Rapid Response nurse in Anchorage and spends her free time recreating with her husband and two dogs. She has been teaching Wilderness Medicine for NOLS since 2018 and is passionate about imparting her medical knowledge to students.

Anchorage, Alaska

While Anchorage may be the largest city in Alaska, remote wilderness opportunities abound just outside your back door. The Chugach mountains frame the surrounding area, while networks of trails within the city are often visited by bears and moose. Access to adventure is a short drive away while an international airport make Anchorage an ideal location to host wilderness medicine courses for both local Alaskans and visitors.
